What is Resin Incense?

Resin incense is the hardened secretion of plants that have been ritualistically burned for thousands of years. It is more concentrated and is not diluted with any burning substance, giving it more aromatic properties than an incense stick or cone. Resin incense can be used for meditation, building focus, and relaxation.

Also, because it is a type of incense that cannot burn by itself, you will need a few more tools. Firstly, you will need the incense itself, with your preferred fragrance—charcoal tablets for burning the resin, along with tongs, sand, rocks, spoon, and a matchstick or lighter. We also recommend using a ceramic toaster or a tile for the process for safety reasons and coal that does not have saltpetre.

There are many methods to burning resin. We will be discussing two ways of doing this. Nonetheless, you will need the same number of tools at a minimum, with an added candle, “aromatherapy oil warmer”, vegetable oil, and your preferred kind of holder.

Step-By-Step Guide on Burning Resin Incense

How to Light Resin Incense with Charcoal

  • Place your charcoal burner on a heat resistant surface and fill it with ¾ amounts of sand or rock.
  • Pick your charcoal with tongs and light it using matchsticks or lighters.
  • Once the charcoal begins to crackle, place it on the sand inside of your burner. You will notice it has reached optimal temperature once there is a layer of ash covering it.
  • Use your spoon to add a small amount of resin to the charcoal.
  • Repeat as many times as you desire before extinguishing.

How to Burn Resin Incense Without Charcoal

  • Place an aromatherapy “oil warmer” onto a heat-resistant surface and add vegetable oil into the dish.
  • Pick the resin of your choice and place it on the oil warmer.
  • Light a small candle and put it inside.
  • Let the oil heat up, and soon the resin will begin to release its aroma.
  • Repeat as many times as you desire.
  • Extinguish the candle after use.
  • Make sure to discard the oil once every few days of use. Clean the warmer using a clean cloth or a paper towel.

How Long Does Resin Incense Burn?

Resin incense can burn depending on the quantity of it being used. However, once lit up, charcoal tablets can last for up to 15-20 minutes, and oil warmers can last for up to 4 hours. During this moment, you can repeat the process and put in as much resin as you want.

How to Put Out Resin Incense

  • Once the charcoal is completely burnt out, discard it using tongs, and dowse it with water.
  • If you are using oil warmers, you will need to gently blow out the candle and dispose of the oil once it has cooled down.

Tips for using Resin Incense Safely

  • Do not consume the resin incense!
  • Please do not touch the charcoal tablet and heated oil or attempt to move them with your bare hands while they are burning.
  • You will also want to make sure there is proper ventilation in the room where your resin is burning.
  • You will not want to leave the burner or the oil warmer unattended.
  • Place out of reach of curtains, children and pets.
  • Make sure not to put your burner near drafty areas or inside a closed environment like a closet or wardrobe.
